Overview

Beau Michelle is a distinctive low-alcohol Junmai from Tomono Shuzo in Saku, Nagano. Inspired by The Beatles’ “Michelle”—music is played in the brewery during fermentation—the name pairs the song with beau, the French word for “beautiful.” Made with sake rice polished to 60% and brewed to just 9% ABV, it offers a refreshing balance of gentle sweetness and acidity with an easy, wine-like character. The brewery describes the brand as “a sake that makes the heart dance.”

Founded in 1901, Tomono Shuzo brews with locally grown Nagano rice and underground water from the Yatsugatake mountain system. From careful rice washing in small batches through low-temperature storage, the brewery’s hands-on approach gives Beau Michelle its clean, polished expression.
